Wei county is a county with "four without two without", that is, it does not rely on mountains, seas, railways, big cities, no mineral deposits underground and no resources on the ground. Its main economic indicators rank behind the city, and it is a veritable "underachiever". In 2012, it was recognized as a key county for national poverty alleviation and development. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, wei county has made every effort to make up for the shortcomings of economic and social development, found a way for underdeveloped areas to leapfrog development, successfully explored the "wei county model" and created the "wei county speed". In 2021, the GDP reached 12.237 billion yuan, 2.5 times that of 2012. The total fiscal revenue reached 1.157 billion yuan, 3.68 times that of 2012.
The industrial level has been upgraded. Wei county adheres to the new road of accelerating transformation, green development, leapfrogging and upgrading, realizing the double promotion of industrial scale and quality, forming three leading industries, such as automobiles and parts, deep processing of agricultural products, new equipment manufacturing and new materials, and is cultivating and expanding two emerging industries, such as special steel and big health. Economic vitality has been newly enhanced. In 2014, wei county was identified by the Hebei provincial government as the only county-level comprehensive reform pilot county in the province, and in 2018, wei county was approved to continue to deepen the comprehensive reform pilot, with a pilot period of 2020. During the pilot period, wei county has introduced more than 160 reform measures, covering all aspects of economic and social development, such as administrative system, integrated development of urban and rural areas, agriculture and rural areas, investment parks, industrial support, tackling poverty, breaking bottlenecks and social governance. A number of reform measures have created a precedent in the whole province, among which two reform experiences, such as administrative examination and approval and asset income poverty alleviation, have been promoted throughout the country, and another 16 reform measures have been promoted throughout the province. The development of characteristic agriculture has promoted farmers’ income. In 2021, the per capita disposable income of rural residents in wei county reached 12,209 yuan, 2.58 times that of 2012. In addition, innovative asset income poverty alleviation, e-commerce poverty alleviation, consumption poverty alleviation and other series of national typical poverty alleviation models.

People’s lives have been improved. Efforts will be made to do a good job in key livelihood issues, and people’s livelihood expenditures will remain above 80% of the general public budget expenditures all year round. According to reports, since the beginning of this year, wei county has competed for seven provincial key preliminary projects with a total investment of 17.082 billion yuan.
